How to Read Industrial Tyre Markings Before You Buy
A practical guide to recording tyre size, construction, load information, rim diameter and supporting markings for an accurate enquiry.

Why the complete marking matters
Tyre sidewalls carry identification and technical information, but formats vary by product family and applicable standards. A familiar passenger-style example such as 225/65R17 separates nominal width, aspect ratio, radial construction and rim diameter. Industrial, agricultural, motorcycle and earthmover products may use other conventions.
Do not send only the largest number visible on the tyre. Photograph the complete sidewall in good light, then add close-ups of the size, service description, construction, tube/tubeless wording, maximum load or pressure information, pattern name and any regulatory marking relevant to your market.

Common elements to record
- Nominal tyre size exactly as moulded, including letters, hyphens and slashes.
- Construction indication, such as radial or diagonal/bias where shown.
- Nominal rim or bead-seat diameter and the existing wheel specification.
- Load index, load range, ply rating or maximum-load information where applicable.
- Speed symbol, tube type/tubeless marking, valve and flap information where applicable.

Marking is not the whole fitment decision
Two tyres can share a nominal size while differing in actual dimensions, load capability, tread, compound or intended service. The replacement must satisfy the equipment manufacturer’s requirements and fit the approved wheel. For dual assemblies, clearance and matched dimensions may also matter.
Load and speed values are conditional ratings, not permission to operate independently of the vehicle, rim, inflation and service limits. Ask for the applicable technical data rather than converting a symbol from an unrelated product category.

Photograph checklist for remote matching
- Whole machine and tyre position.
- Complete left and right sidewalls where accessible.
- Straight-on view of the wheel or rim.
- Tread pattern and visible damage or wear.
- Equipment data plate and current tyre label, with sensitive ownership data covered if needed.
